A group of students from the tour operator Rustic Pathways helped us painting signs for educating the community in Carate about the wonderful nature of the Osa Peninsula.

The messages of the signs indicate the immense biodiversity found here on the Osa Peninsula. Did you know for example that the Osa Peninsula and the Golfo Dulce have 13 different ecosystems? Due to the special geographic location of the Osa Peninsula we enjoy a rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Just a few examples: here on the Osa live more than 375 species of birds (18 are endemic), 117 species of reptiles and amphibians, 124 species of mammals, 5000 species of plants (2 to 3% are endemic) and more than 8000 species of insects. In the Golfo Dulce we can find 25 species of dolphins and whales, and 4 of the 6 species of marine turtles of the country.

Also we have the biggest population of Scarlet Macaws of Costa Rica and all of Central America which nevertheless is in danger of extinction.
