To get to La Leona Eco Lodge from San Jose:
By air
Two airlines have daily flights to Puerto Jimenez. Flying time: 60 minutes.

By bus
From San Jose take a direct bus to Puerto Jimenez from the Blanco-Lobo transportation company. The bus terminal is located 50 meters north of the San Carlos terminal, the bus leaves San Jose at 12 noon, every day and the trip takes 8 hours.

You can also take the route that arrives at Golfito, traveling on the Interamerican Highway on the Tracopa buses, to later take a small boat to Puerto Jimenez.
Rented cars
From San Jose to La Leona Eco Lodge this is approximately a 10 hour drive. It is much nicer if you drive yourself, taking your time down the coast and space it out in two days. Your stay at La Leona Ecolodge should be for at least a couple of days. Many of our guests regret not having more time. Once they arrive, no one wants to leave the Osa Peninsula.
Please be very careful when you drive down our roads. Your safety is of utmost importance! We recommend that you do not leave objects in the car unattended. Avoid driving at night, as road signs are not sufficient in Costa Rica.
Another route you can take is down the center of the country on the Pan American Highway, the road is now in good condition. Follow it until you arrive at San Isidro del General, continue on through large pineapple plantations until you arrive at a town called Palmar Norte, where you will finally stop at the “Corcovado” gas station. At this station take a right, if you’re coming from San Jose. Keep driving down this route until you arrive at Puerto Jimenez. From here there is only one road to Carate. Once there you must leave your car at the “Pulpería” (small store), where the owners have a parking lot. From la “Pulpería” you must walk some 30-45 minutes on the beach, where you will see a sign that reads “La Leona Ecolodge”.
The other route would be driving down the coast, a beautiful trip but at a much slower pace because many parts of the road are not paved. The drive from Puerto Jimenez to Carate takes approximately 1 ½ hours, down unpaved roads with little or no maintenance. A 4x4 all terrain vehicle is recommended.
Taxis
Long-distance taxi (colectivo) from Puerto Jimenez to Carate: The taxis are pick-ups which have two benches and a canvas roof. During the high season (Dec-Apr) they leave every day at 6:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. During green season (Jun-Nov) each day at 6:00 a.m. This drive takes approximately 2 hours for a price of US$7.00 per person.
Private taxi from Puerto Jimenez to Carate: It’s easy to catch a private taxi from Puerto Jimenez, if you wish you can choose an air conditioned one or a pick-up truck, for the price of US$70.00.
Whether you come by car, airplane, jeep, on horseback or by foot, once you arrive to Carate continue walking on the beach, to the west, during 30 or 45 minutes until you get to La Leona Eco Lodge. Remember to leave your car at the “Pulpería” in Carate.
