The Bijagual farm exists since almost 70 years; here you can experience the authentic life of a local Costa Rican family.

You can taste typical food like Tamales, delicious handmade empanadas and local products from dairy cattle. More than 400 hectares of this farm are protected area; this includes about 150 hectares of pure primary forest, 6 hectares of calm water surrounding the lagoon, and more than eight kilometers of paradise beach front. It is an excellent spot for bird watchers and all nature lovers who want to enjoy wildlife at its best.

We recommend leaving La Leona at 7:30 in the morning, taking the colectivo bus from Carate at 8:30 am and only 30 minutes later you are in Bijagual. In the afternoon take the colectivo bus back to Carate passing by around 3:30 pm and you will be back in Carate around 4 pm.

This trip is a full day experience combining two different tours and meeting local people; a typical lunch is included.

Horse back riding

On horseback we pass through private wildlife reserve, pasture land and tropical forests until we get to deserted beaches with natural jaccuzis. It’s just PURA VIDA while the jungle accompanies us along the beach until we get to a breathtaking vista point over the lagoon of Pejeperro. For this tour you don’t have to be experienced in horseback riding; it’s a tour for everybody who wants to enjoy and learn about the great nature of the area.

Kayak tour:

Experience the wonderful world of mangroves just 20 minutes away from Corcovado National Park or an hour from Puerto Jimenez. Discover a variety of amazing wildlife within the mangrove forests. We float under a lush canopy of rainforest where we might spot a spectacular variety of birds, snakes, crocodiles, ant eaters or groups of White Face Capuchin Monkeys.
